Ancient Greek Day!

Kestrels have had an AMAZING day finding out even more about the Ancient Greeks  whilst dressed in greek costumes (a big thank you to parents for supporting us with this!). We were incredibly lucky to have David from Histrionics come and put on a very entertaining show 'The legend of Troy' and run a workshop for us where we got to handle artefacts and try on a replica helmet.  This was part of a reward for doing so well with our sustainable travel initiative.  We also had a great time tasting typical greek foods and making our own masks of gods, godesses and mythical creatures.

 

 

Rooks Roman Day

Today, Rooks became Romans!

We began the day by watching a production of 'Helen of Troy' narrated by Histronics and acted out by members of KS2, with a lot of audience participation.  The result was factual, yet hilariously funny!  A story, I think very few watching will ever forget!

After break, Rooks settled down to some art and DT.  We created a class mosaic of the Bitterne Manor Logo, some Roman Helmets and also Roman Laurels.  The class were incredibly proud of their mosaic and want it displayed with Rooks class and the school moto "Learning to be the Best We Can"

Lunch came around very quickly and food was prepared.  The neighboring Egyptians however highjacked our food and we forced to go into battle to retrieve it.  In true Roman style however, we did not just run in, we discussed strategies and carefully planned our battle strategy.  As a result WE WON! and a delicious feast followed (not so sure the olives went down that well, but many of the class were willing to at least try them!)

A fantastic and victorious day was had by all!  Hopefully the Roman Army, now safe in their own territory, will get a good nights sleep ready for the last day of term.

Nightingales' Egyptian Day

On Thursday 11th February, Nightingales had an Egyptian Day to celebrate all the hard work we have done over the past half term
We had an action packed day!! To start with, we were very excited about being in our costumes and took lots of photographs. Everyone looked amazing!

After that, we went into the hall with the rest of KS2, where we were visited by Dave from Histrionics who told us a Greek legend. It was hilarious - everyone got involved! Here is a picture of Grace in full acting mode!

After that, we finished off our Egyptian Death masks and collars...(suddenly a very scary looking class!!!)

After break, we recapped what we know about mummification- and then had a go ourselves. It is really not as easy as it looks!

All groups did so well!! We were so impressed with the neatness of some of the bandaging!

After lunch, we were just minding our own business when the Romans invaded!!!

After we had been beaten by the Romans, we made up and had a friendly feast!

We had a fantastic day!!! Thank you so much to all the adults that helped. 

Bring Cakes for a Non-Uniform Day!

Dear Parents,

To get everyone in the mood for the Half Term Holiday and to celebrate Valentine's Day, the PTA are organising a non-uniform day and cake sale on Friday 12 February.
Children may come to school dressed in non-uniform in exchange for a donation of a cake .... or two, which we will sell at a cake stall at the end of the day.

Love your bike and scooter day!

This morning, children from across the school came in by bikes and scooters- but with a difference! We dressed them up to show how much we love riding to school! When the whistle went first thing in the morning, we paraded them around the playground. They looked brilliant! Well done everyone for making such an effort, and thank you to Mrs Rice for organising it.

Nightingales Music Concert

On Monday 8th February, we performed a recorder concert for our friends and family and year 1. Whilst the parents were walking in we sang, signed and played the aardvark song. After everyone was seated, Mrs Clowes showed our audeince noisy bird and silent snail.
After that we showed everyone our amazing progress. We've made lots! We started our show with the song 'glory b'. After that we played them BB blues which was amazing too. We also played strictly b.
Afterwards, we played another great song Thinking A which is very slow and sad. We played Abies Blues, the Mole song and Mr Cool. After that we played Jelly on a Plate which was complicated but brilliant! We finished with our favourite song EBGBs. We loved it!
My favourite part of the concert was the end when we played EBGBs becasue its my absolute favourite.
My mum and my nanny said "That was excellent you're amazing! " I think the parents were happy because we played so well together and didn't squeak once!
