World Book Day at Bitterne Manor!

If I had one word to describe how amazing World Book day went it would be... WOW!

Yesterday, Bitterne Manor celebrated World Book Day in style and the pupils didn't disappoint.  Both staff and children got involved in dressing up and taking part in the fun tasks throughout the day. First, We had a WHOLE school assembly where Mrs Hayward invited up some children to discuss who they came as and why, including the teachers!  Children took part in the 'story treasure hunt' where clues were hung up in the learning lab ready for children to crack the code and reveal a hidden message.  Some even won some a chocolate prize!  After break, we decided to have a whole school selfie on the playground (those who know me well, know it had to be done) At lunchtime, children were given the chance to hear different teachers read some of their favourite books.  Mrs Hayward was particularly popular as she shared some of her favourites!  Towards the end of the day children took part in a 'pair and share' where classes were teamed up with each other.  Children shared their favourite book and were given a chance to read together.  They thoroughly enjoyed this :)

All in all, World Book Day 2017 was an absolute success! Thank you to all the staff, children and parents for making it a memorable day but most importantly to help encourage our LOVE for READING!

Here are some pictures highlighting events throughout the day...

World book day

Yesterday we had an amazing day celebrating world book day. We came in dressed up as our favourite book characters. We read the story Albert Le Blanc. We then imagined that we were a toy in the toy shop and had to think of special skills we could use to cheer Albert up.
We investigated the learning lab for clues that had been left out and hidden. We then read the hidden message.
In the afternoon we had the chance to share our favourite book with the year 6 children.
We had such a good day. A big thank you to the parents for helping to make some fantastic costumes.

ECO and recycling

Yesterday we were lucky enough to have the ladies from the Southampton recycling team come in to talk to us all about recycling and what we can and can't put into the recycling bins at home.
We then got to use an MRF machine in teams to sort through different materials and separate them into groups just like they do at the council.

We even learnt that plastic bottles when they are recycled can be turned into more plastic bottles or even clothes.  Some jumpers and fleeces are made from the fibers of a plastic bottle. Who knew?

A big thank you to Loretta and Becky from the recycling team for coming in and teaching us all about recycling.

Year 1 hlp

All we can say is wow! The children and their parents have been very busy during the half term holiday making some amazing skeletons for us. We have skeletons that move, are made from a range of things and simply look outstanding. The children have then explored themselves and what makes them special as well as compared themselves to other members of their family.
Well done year 1.
