Super Swift's SMASH Summer Fayre!

Wow! It seems like a life time since last week's Summer Fayre...! What a week is has been!  Swifts did incredibly well with their super stands and words can't describe how proud I am of their amazing efforts! They ran the 'Coconut Shy', 'Tin Can Alley' and 'Selfie' stands with such enthusiasm and wanted to make sure everyone at the Fayre had a go! Well done superstars :)  Thank you to everyone who visited us! Here are some fab pics...

VIRGIN GROW YOUR MONEY - THE RESULTS!

Year 5 have taken part in the Virgin Grown Your Money Project again this year, where they were given £5 each to invest in a business idea to sell at the Summer Fayre.  I am proud to announce that EVERY group that took part made a profit - we are all budding entrepreneurs! The winning group was Team Titan with their delicious sweet cones - did you buy one?  They made a whopping £51.52!  As a class we made £126.20, which the children are currently planning on what to spend it on.  They have already decided that they would like to give some to the charities raising money for recent events in London and Manchester.  A big thank you to everyone involved and especially to the children for all their hard work.

Summer Fayre

Money is in and being counted but I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for an AMAZING summer fayre. There was a lovely buzz around the school. Thank you to our great PTA, all the helpers, the children and staff, and to all the community for coming along and supporting the school. The money we raise is vital in making school improvements in a time of dwindling budgets.

Lastly, a huge thank you to Jennie and Kirsty. You are both PTA stars and the school is so grateful for everything you both do.

More photos to follow and once we know the grand total, we will let you all know!

Longdown Mobile Farm

As part of the Summer Fayre we today had a visit from Longdown.  We had the opportunity to meet all the different animals.

We met Max and Ruby the miniature donkeys.  They wouldn't grow any taller than they already are.  We all got the opportunity to stroke the donkeys, Max had a mixture of long and short hair, this is because he was shedding his winter coat.  They were really dusty as well.

After that we met the hens and got the chance to hold a chick. They were really fast and kept trying to get away. We were really lucky as one of the hens had even laid an egg while we were there, it was still warm!

We even played a game of trying to keep a chick balanced on our heads. It was hard but everyone managed it.

We then finished the session with a goat feeding competition.  Jamie and Lola went head to head. Can you guess whose goat won?

M&M master class

Kestrels were very lucky today to get a master class in acting and stage production from the M&M crew who came to perform Treasure Island for the whole school.  In addition to enjoying the show, Kestrel class had the opportunity to learn about what goes into putting on such a production.  We were shown how the lighting, scenery and special effects were used and given lessons in how to 'multi-role' - that is taking on the role of more than one character in a play.  We found out that accent and pitch are key in changing the character's voice and that body language made a big difference to getting into role.  We all had a go at becoming Long John Silver - Arrrrr!  Let's see if we can put some of those lessons into practise for our own leaver's performance!!
