Neighbourhood Advice

We are the Bitterne Park Neighbourhood Policing Team and this is our monthly bulletin providing crime prevention advice and updates on issues within your local area.
Now the darker evenings are drawing in, this often increases the opportunities for homes to be left in darkness during the late afternoon whilst householders are still at work. Don’t make your absence easy for burglars to spot by doing the following:
  • Use timer switches, available at most DIY stores, to switch on lights and radios while you are away from the home to make it look occupied. (Keep your bills down by using energy saving bulbs).
  • Ensure you shut and lock your doors and windows.
  • Only tell the people who you trust if your home will be empty for a period of time.
  • Do not leave your personal belongings on display.
  • Property mark your belongings with your house number and post code, keep a list of any makes, models and serial numbers.
  • Register your items for free at www.immobilise.com. This service assists us to return your property to the rightful owner in the event it is lost or stolen.

Harvest Collection: Thursday 19th October

Please could children bring in small tins, packets and jars and take them to their classrooms where there will be a collection point in each classroom—who can collect the most?
The produce will be distributed to Southampton City Mission Basic Bank who will thendistribute the food to those in need.
Thank you very much for your donations.

Ever considered fostering...?

Southampton fostering service need more foster carers from Southampton to provide care for local children.
"We provide an excellent level of support and training , competitive allowances and fees, a welcome grant of £1635 and a very active foster carers association.  Come along and join us at our information evening on Wednesday 18 October, 6.30pm – 8pm at the Civic Centre. The session is very informal and  will cover the realities of fostering, what happens during the assessment and panel process, challenges you will face and the training and support you will receive. This will be followed by a Q&A session and an opportunity to ask current carers about their experiences. You will also be able to take away an application form and information pack."
Find out more on the Southampton City Council fostering web page.

Mrs Carter's wet!

Today we tested our prediction for which material would make the best coat for Mrs Carter. First we tested Mrs Carters trousers. They are not waterproof. We tested the bubblewrap and it kept her leg dry. Take a look at some of our photos. We had great fun getting her wet!!
