Swifts and Swallows get very ARTY!

Today, Swifts and Swallows were visited by some artists who gave them an amazing opportunity to create work to be displayed in Southampton.  Artist Kev Munday, will be using our work as inspiration for a HUGE billboard set to be displayed in January.  Keep your eyes peeled for this (the billboard behind Kwikfit in Bitterne.) Children used bold colours and shapes to create their very own funky character in the style of Kev's work.  These pieces will be exhibited in 'Showcase gallery' in Southampton in February (more details to follow.) What a fantastic opportunity they all had today to showcase their talents!  Well done super Swifts and Swallows.  Take a sneak peak of their designs below...

Community Advice from the Neighbourhood Policing Team

We are the Bitterne Park Neighbourhood Policing Team and each month we’ll be providing crime prevention advice and updates on issues within your area.

Christmas is the time to relax and to have fun however we know that it can be stressful at times. Here are some tips to avoid becoming a victim of crime this festive season.

·         Don’t leave presents on show in parked cars as this can be tempting to thieves.
·         Register your valuable gifts for free on www.immobilise.com. This will help the Police return items to you if they are lost or stolen.
·         Don’t advertise your new gifts to criminals by leaving their empty boxes outside of your home until they are collected. Take them to the tip!
·         Ensure your home is secure when you go out. Lock your doors and windows, leave a light on and draw the curtains to make it appear that someone is at home.

We want to let you know what is going on in your community. Sign up for free to www.hampshirealerts.co.uk and receive messages from us of information, crime alerts and witness appeals local to the area in which you live or work.

Merry Christmas!

Switch Off Champions!

You may remember the children were set a challenge during Switch Off fortnight to design/make something to show how we can save energy, both at school and at home.
We had many entries, including a game, a model switch, a poem and lots of information posters.
Congratulations to our lucky winners who each received a certificate of achievement and a zingy keyring!
Well done everyone for trying hard to save energy over the past few weeks. :-)

Christmas has started for Guildhall Children!

Last night, 50 children from Years 2-5 performed at Southampton Guildhall in the annual SSMS Christmas concert.

Children in Year 2 showcased 'Lights, Camel, Action! - Strictly the Nativity!' with several children undertaking the parts of sheep, shepherds, stars and innkeepers in dances - well done Rose, Faye, Theo, Leo, Lola, Isaac, Hannah and Oliver for learning these so well!

Children in Years 3-5 performed 'Are we nearly there yet?', which was also narrated by Henry, Izzy, Maria, Kim, Jacob and Annie.

All the children were absolutely fantastic and worked so hard to learn their words and actions to the songs - you did the school proud!!

Thank you to parents and carers for supporting this event, and of course to all the members of staff who gave up their time to help with both the rehearsals and the performances.

Measures and Mocktails!

Owls class had an amazing time in maths last week! We have been exploring and converting different measures with last week focusing on litres! We made measuring steps and mocktails to help us with our learning!

Youth Forum Event at St Marys

A small group of our pupils attended a great event organised by Southampton Youth Forum at St Mary's stadium last week. A range of fun activities were organised for the children around getting along together, getting to school and managing budgets. All the children enjoyed the event and we even took away a couple of nice prizes!

Mayan Masks

This week in year 4, we have been designing and creating our very own Mayan masks. We learnt about why the masks were used and then created them in our topic and art lessons. They all looked very unique, but each encompassed some of the traditional Mayan designs.
