Bitterne Manor LOVE reading!

What a wonderful day it has been at Bitterne Manor Primary school!  At a first glance, it looks as if the children and staff had gone a bit bonkers coming to school dressed in their PJs! Well, don't fear as it was all for a good cause...World Book Day!

This year's theme was to 'celebrate' books and my goodness we did just that!  Each class has been immersed in a book which has helped them to develop their understanding and help show their love of reading.

Part of the day enabled children to log onto their BUGCLUB accounts and read online!  It was great to see children having a go at the quizzes and earning lots of rewards.  Keep your eyes peeled for a letter inviting you in from your class teacher to read with your child online.  You can use this time to ask any questions that you may have regarding BUGCLUB or just simply come in to see how it works!  All classes have been allocated a parent session this half term :)

Like last year, staff read a book to children during the 'share a story' session at lunchtime.  This was a huge favourite!  Children even got the opportunity to share their special book with a child from a different class.  The books that children have kindly donated are beyond brilliant as are the meaningful messages stuck inside.  A MASSIVE thank you to all you SUPER parents who have made this happen.  These will be displayed in the library for children to read for years to come!

Thank you to all the staff and children for what seems to have been a very SUCCESSFUL World Book Day!

Finally time for bed now I think...

A 'storming' World Book Day in Kestrels!

Kestrels have had a great day getting immersed in our class text 'Stormbreaker'.  We have focused on settings, in particular the villain's lair and wrote our own setting descriptions.  We made comparisons between our text and 'Dr No' by Ian Fleming and also looked at a graphic novel version of Stormbreaker.  This led to us having a go at producing our own page for a graphic novel, which was challenging!
We also loved having a chance to buddy up with Kingfishers this afternoon and share some of our favourite texts from when we were in Year R.  Another great World Book Day!

Robins J-Rock Props help

Robins have worked hard this week making props for the KS2 children's J-Rock performance.
We have made fruit out of Papier Mache and decorated them beautifully to look as realistic as possible.

We now cant wait to watch the show and see if we can spot the props we made.

Can you spot the one you made?
