The Summer Reading Challenge asks children under 12 years old to borrow and read any six library books over the summer. The theme for the 2019 Summer Reading Challenge is 'Space Chase,' inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.  How exciting!

Children will team up with futuristic family 'The Rockets' for an exciting space mission as they track down books nabbed by a mischievous band of aliens. As children read library books for the Summer Reading Challenge, they will receive special stickers, some with mysterious smells. By adding these stickers to their collectable mission folders, young readers will help 'The Rockets' solve clues, dodge asteroids and discover the missing books, having lots of fun and adventures along the way.

To take part in 'Space Chase,' all children need to do is sign up at their nearest library, where they will be given a Space Chase collector folder to keep a record of their Summer Reading Challenge journey.

Space Chase launches in all libraries across Southampton on Saturday 13 July 2019 and runs until Saturday 31 August 2019.

Goodluck!

SWIFTS are SMART!

Today, the SUPER Swift class took part in the 'Smarties challenge!'  This required them to use their Maths skills that they have learnt this week! They have been looking at 'Statistics' and learning all about tally charts and block graphs.  It was a great way to consolidate their understanding and see how well they could apply their knowledge. If they did a great job with the challenge, they got the chance to EAT their Smarties.  I've never seen them so focused!

Take a look at what they got up to...

Writers' Day!

Today was a very exciting day for some of our pupils from Bitterne Manor Primary School.  Children from Year 3 and Year 4 were lucky enough to take part in a Writers' workshop at another school! It was led by one of the UK's leading children's authors, Matt Whyman.  Matt has been running workshops in schools for many years now and our pupils gained a great deal from working with him throughout the day.  Their writing is AMAZING! This will be published and put on display for everyone to see :) We are immensely proud of them!

Year 6 Crumble Creations, Part 2!

I am so ridiculously proud of our year 6's; I've had the privilege of teaching them computing since the start of Year 5 and they have some of the most brilliant and creative minds I've ever witnessed.

Here is part two of their Crumble Physical Computing projects:

Proud Parents

The children in Robins have been proudly looking our new baby chicks this week. After the excitement of watching them hatch the children have now taken on their responsibilities of parenting and began to help clean, feed and cuddle our chicks.

New arrivals in Robins

On Monday Robins were very excited to receive a very special delivery.... 10 eggs!!

The eggs have been put in an incubator and the children have been excitedly watching over them for the  past few days as they began to move and crack!

Finally on Wednesday morning our first chick hatched!!

The whole school have been popping in to watch over the eggs and by Thursday lunchtime we had 9 new healthy baby chicks.
