A fruity Solar System
This afternoon, Owls have been learning to name the planets in our solar system. We looked at where they are located in relation to The Sun and the other planets and also compared their sizes. We also used fruit to help us understand the difference in size between them. Here are some of our pictures:

This is Me!
Kingfishers have enjoyed their 'This is Me!' topic
Over the last few weeks we have been looking at our senses. We discussed what foods we like and dislike. Some of us like sweet foods, while others like spicy. The class realised we like different things, and that our tastes may change over time. We read 'Oliver's Vegetables' and learnt about how different vegetables grow. This lead to discussions about healthy food choices. Our Kingfishers used their cutting skills to cut out their favourite foods and foods that would make a rounded meal. We talked about how some foods are not so good for us, but they are alright to have as a treat.
Our Kingfishers were fantastic at telling us what we should do to look after our teeth. We discussed how sugar can be bad for them (and what food contain high levels of sugar), that calcium is good for them, that we need to brush our teeth twice a day, and that we should go to the dentist at least once a year. They enjoyed learning a 'Brush your teeth song' and taking part in various teeth cleaning activties! We enjoyed using our sense of smell to sniff lots of different things. Lavendar was a favourite. Some of our children liked the smell of vinegar. It just made me want fish and chips for lunch! We used our ears when playing listening games.
Kingfishers read 'The Colour Monster' and discussed all the different emotions we may feel. We thought about how we may act or show how we are feeling through our facial expressions, body language and tone of voice. We could all think of times we have felt all the emotions in the book. Next week we will continue to think about what we can do if we are feeling worried, anxious, upset or angry to make ourselves feel more positive. Our pupils made sensory bottles for each of the emotions and these are now in our 'Calm' area in our classroom.

Roman Numeral Fun in Owls!
Good Morning,
Owls have been super busy this morning learning to read and write Roman Numerals up to 1,000. We recapped each of the symbols from our learning last week and then looked at adding numerals together to make bigger numbers (for example, 23 and 51). After we'd secured this, we learnt that you could not have 4 of the same symbol together, so sometimes we need to put a smaller value before a larger value to subtract them (for example, 90 and 4).
We used lollysticks to show what numbers would be as Roman Numerals.

A HUGE welcome to our Kingfishers
Our Kingfishers are now in school full time and are doing a marvellous job at settling into school and learning the routines and expectations. We are very proud of how well they are doing. They are such super stars!
This is what they have been up to!
We have been learning how to make playdough. We then used the playdough to make cakes while we acted out 'Pat a cake'. Playdough is definately a firm favourite in Kingfishers.
