Staying safe and kind online

EE have worked in partnership with a number of organisations to create PhoneSmart.  PhoneSmart has been created for kids, age 10-13, who have just received their first smartphone.

It's includes a tool for parent and guardians to help gauge their child’s readiness for the responsibilities of smartphone ownership, as well as helping to start the bigger conversations about the risks they might face online.  There is also a Kid's PhoneSmart Licence (for children aged 10 - 13), which is a fun, interactive and educational course to help children learn how to stay safe and be kind online, and to encourage them to use their phones for good, not hate.  The course is split into five episodes, where your child can follow four engaging young characters as they get their first phones and embark on their online adventures. Each episode covers key aspects of online behaviour, from cyberbullying to fake news and has fun quizzes, interactive elements and pop-up facts to help your child learn vital online do’s and don’t’s.

For more information or to sign up visit the EE phonesmart page using the link: eephonesmart.co.uk

R;pple

One of our parents signposted this potentially life-saving digital tool, which is free for parents to download.  It was created to ensure more help and support is given to individuals searching for harmful content online.  If a user does search for this, they will first be guided through a filter of breathing exercises and then very simple, uncluttered and calmly presented strategies and forums, help lines and mental health services they can access both now and longer term: accompanied with messages of hope and encouragement to keep safe.

For more information or to install, please visit the attached link: R;pple

Supporting Parents and Children (Young Minds)

Times are tough for many people right now and parents can find themselves pulled in many different directions.  Children may also be struggling being in the house for so much longer than usual.

A mixture of concern about covid, work from home and children at home, along with a possible financial impact make for a stressful household.

Young Minds have created a useful 'Supporting Parents Helpfinder'. By answering six questions, parents can find out how to support their child's mental health during the pandemic (and beyond).

For further information, click the link below:

Young Minds have also created a useful poster highlighting ways to give support to children when they have angry feelings or outbursts and may help families start a conversation and talk about each other’s feelings.  This can be accessed by clicking the link below:

Re:Minds support group for families

Re:Minds is a parent-led support group for families who have children/young people with autism or mental health issues and is based in Southampton. It was founded with mutual support in mind, their aim is to allow people whose children face similar issues to meet up in an informal setting to share knowledge and talk about any challenges their families are facing. They don’t claim to be experts, just other families who understand what it can feel like to be on the autism/mental health journey.

Swifts LOVE BUGCLUB!

The Swift class invited in their parents today to share their BUGCLUB reading.  It was fantastic!  They thoroughly enjoyed it and had a great time reading.  Each class will have the opportunity to invite parents in so they can read with their child and ask any questions that they may have regarding the online programme.  Keep a look out for your class slot or ask your class teacher for more information!

Thank you so much for the parents who came in today, it really meant a lot to your child :)
