Bitterne Manor takes part in Light the South!

Our school is taking part in the Light the South art trail, taking over Southampton and Cowes with 90 unique and brilliant lighthouse sculptures.

40 of these – the Little Lights - are created by the area’s talented children and young people, all with the aim of raising vital funds for Southampton Children’s Hospital – the remainder are the work of professional artists both local and from further afield.

Our lighthouse has arrived in Swifts class and the class has already begun to think about designs for our sculpture. We can unveil a sneak preview below!

The aim of the project is also to raise money for the Southampton Hospitals Charity which does amazing work funding life saving equipment and improving outcomes for patients.

Every penny donated will help improve children’s experiences whilst in hospital. We have included a link below and we would appreciate your support in adding to our contributions towards this great cause...

Hawaiin Day for Jays!

Jays had a busy day travelling to Hawaii for Cultural Day today! We experienced everything from dressing like we were in Hawaii, Hula dancing, researching, making our own garlands AND trying some homemade pineapple upside down cake.

I am so proud of how amazing the Jays were and their amazing positive attitudes today! We had so much fun and learnt so many things!

Cultural Day in Kestrels

Today in Kestrels we learnt all about Japan. We started by finding out about the location and geographical features of the country. We then had time to research an aspect of Japanese culture that we found interesting, such as food and samurai warriors. We also learnt how to make origami cranes. This afternoon, Mrs Puckett, who is Japanese, came to talk to us about life in Japan. She had some great facts and even taught us a few words in Japanese. We finished the day by having a go a drawing and creating our own manga characters. This is much harder than it looks!

Cultural Day FUN!

The Robins class learnt all about India today! We started the day with finding India on the map, located some oceans around it and learnt about some of the famous landmarks. One of them was all about the Golden Temple. Miss Sangha taught us some facts and showed us some pictures of it from her recent trip to India. We were lucky enough to see other pictures from her trip too.

Here are some pictures...

Miss Sangha then taught us all about the Indian Flag. She told us how the different colours mean something, for example, the orange strip means strength, the white strip means peace and the green strip means growth. The symbol in the middle (Dharma Chakra) represents truth.

Here are some pictures of us creating the Indian flag...

Miss Sangha then taught us how to count up to 10 in Punjabi. It was really fun!

Here's a video of us counting...

To end the day, we learnt all about Bhangra dancing! Miss Sangha showed us some moves and listened to some Punjabi music.

Here's us having a bogie...

As well as this, we got to show off our own cultures and what our traditions are.
It was really lovely! ⭐

We role played, answered lots of questions, sang songs, created a story board about Palm Sunday and spent the afternoon creating a collage. It's been a really lovely day!

Here's some highlights...
