Super Swifts LOVE blowing BUBBLES!

Day 3: Bubble Bobble
So, today we thought we'd test which 2D Shapes created the best bubbles.  Each Swift was given a piece of wire to bend to their desired shape, this was the perfect opportunity to apply their maths skills. To make it even more challenging, we tested the bubbles with three different liquids - washing up liquid,  shampoo and shower gel! Can you guess which one performed the best bubbles? It's not what you think...it was the shower gel! Swifts will be writing up their results and explaining why! Take a look below at the fab fun that Swifts had earlier.

BEWARE... bubbles = some very EXCITED Swifts...

Introducing... SCIENTIFIC SWALLOWS!

So this week is SCIENCE week! Swallows have been predicting, measuring, testing and experimenting! It has been fantastic to see the children be so enthusiastic about the super science investigations!

Flower of celery?
This was our first experiment of the week! We have made predictions of which item will change colour first when placed in food colouring! Swallows then used their tremendous team work skills to carry out the experiment! Now we just wait and see! Take a peak below...

Ocean in a bottle!
Introducing experiment number 2! For this soggy investigation Swallows needed to use their MAGNIFICENT measuring skills to create their very own ocean in a bottle! We used a combination of water, food colouring, oil and glitter and the results were fantastic! Children were able to see how oil and water don't mix whilst most importantly, HAVING FUN!!! Swallows then wrote some very detailed write-ups of their experiment! Have a look below at some of the fun we had...

Gloop Mess!
Be warned! The following experiment got VERY messy! Super Swallows had a very exciting and GLOOPY experience for their third experiment! We created our very own green gloop mess where children witnessed how you can change a liquid into a solid! They showed off their fantastic team work skills by working together to create this messy mixture! Take a peak below...

BUBBLES!
Today Swallows used their SHAPETASTIC skills to investigate which 2D shape would create the best bubbles! We used wire to bend and twist it in to the perfect bubble wand! To add to the experiment we also investigated into which liquid would create the best bubble! We had a fantastic time discovering if our predictions were right or wrong! Super Swallows have blown me away with their enthusiasm towards investigating and learning this week! The bubble-tastic pictures are below!

Nightingale's Science Fun

This week Nightingale's have been enjoying Science Week, we started the week off my creating rockets using a film canister, fizzy paracetamol and water - the children loved seeing how high we could make them go! Today, the children had a fantastic time creating lava lamps exploring how oil and water do not mix! We then put another fizzy paracetamol tablet to create the lava lamp effect. The children have been amazing this week so far and are very proud to take home their lamps today.

Soaking science week

So far this week has been a blast. The children have had the opportunity to learn all about weight and floating and sinking. We started the week by understanding what floating and sinking meant. We have then based a lot of our work on the book who sank the boat. We made predictions of who we thought would cause the boat to sink, we thought about why this was and then tested to check if we were right.
We have moved on to learning about boats and what makes a good boat, this will help us later in the week when we make our own boats and test them out in the water.

Incredible Years Programme

We have successfully managed to find details of the next Incredible Years Programme. This is a fantastic course, which is run for parents with children of primary school age 5-11.

The 12 week programme aims to promote:
- Positive parenting, supporting child/parent relationships.
- Increasing the use of positive strategies to enhance children’s positive behaviours.
- Increasing parent’s confidence to reduce unwanted behaviours.
- Use strategies to enhance positive behaviours, through praise, play and rewards.

VENUE: Valentine Primary School Monday’s
Dates: Starting 23rd April Last session 16th July
Time: 9.30-12.00 (Not running on Monday 7th May and Monday 28th May)

Refreshments are available
(No Crèche Facilities sorry)

Places are very limited so if you are interested, please do come and speak to Mrs Egerton to discuss a referral.

Super Swifts get MESSY!

Day 2: Gloop Mess!
Well, Swifts truly got the chance to get really messy today as they created their very own...GLOOP MESS! Using their measuring skills linked to their Maths this week, Swifts used a range of ingredients to create the gloop. They carefully worked together in creating the  mess but most importantly had fun doing it.  Watching the liquid turn into the solid helped them to then write a set of instructions for others to use. Now, that's what I call super fun Science! Go Swifts!
Take a peak at some of the highlights caught on camera from earlier, be warned though as this may make you want to try this at home...

I wonder what fantastic fun we'll get up to tomorrow...stay tuned for some more 'Science-tastic' shenanigans!

Super Swifts create an Ocean!

That's right, SUPER Swifts created an Ocean...in a bottle!  Linked to our `Titanic` topic the class applied their capacity skills to create this unique thing.  Children thought carefully about how much water, oil and glitter was needed and measured it out working as a team. Great communication skills were shown and Mrs Carey and I were utterly impressed :) This amazing opportunity then allowed Swifts to create some wonderful writing about what was created. Lots of `EX` awards were given out because they were wonderful to read!
Look how cool they look...
