Jubilee celebrations

Kestrels and Falcons had a fabulous time today creating their own crowns; practising their royal waves for the camera and enjoying their jubilee picnic (the rain didn't spoil their fun!) They loved singing along to some classic songs from the last 70 years and making requests from DJ Mr Adams!
It was also lovely to see them all dressed up in their red, white and blue outfits for the occasion! 🥳🇬🇧

A Royal Celebration for Skylarks!

Skylarks have loved celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee!

Take a peak below at some of the fun we have had...👑

What a Royal Day!

Kingfishers have had a fantastic day celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

They took part in many activties, inlcuding making some fantastic crowns.

We read the book 'The Queen's Hat' and looked at a variety of different hats, discussing when we would wear each one.  Some of the children then designed their own hats.

Other children enjoyed using playdough and other materials to make some 'Royal' cupcakes for an afternoon tea!

We looked at some coins and discussed how the Queen's head is always on our money.  Our Kingfishers enjoyed making some crayon rubbings of these and using their fine motor skills to fill in a silhouette of the Queen with our copper coins.

This week we have been learning about castles, their features, and who would have lived in them.  The children wanted to change our small world table into a castle themed table.  We also surprised them with a mini castle roel play for them to decorate and play in.

Over the last few days we have also been discussing London and some of its' famous land marks.  We read 'Pussy cat, pussy cat, where have you been?' and discussed the different places and the maps inside the book.  The children then enjoyed making their own maps of London, incorporating some of the land marks we had been thinking about.

Kingfishers had a wonderful lunch, enjoying music from the last 70 years.

We ended our day learning the National Anthem and perfecting our bows in assembly.

We really have had a great day!

Mayor of Southampton Visits Bitterne Manor Primary

We were very pleased to welcome the Mayor of Southampton to Bitterne Manor Primary School yesterday. He kindly agreed to be interviewed by pupils in our assembly following a tour of the school. Cllr Alex Houghton is the 799th Mayor of Southampton and, as the children found out, an ex pupil at Bitterne Manor Primary School himself. We even found a picture of him (below - seated in the front and right) from the 1990's.

Girls Football

On Thursday, 9 girls from Year 5 and Year 6 represented Bitterne Manor in a football competition held at Test Park against 8 other school teams from across Southampton. It was a great opportunity for all of the children to develop their skills and also for the experienced players to help those who were new to the sport which hopefully is the first step in a long football journey.

The girls were outstanding, not only with their effort and performances, but also their attitude both on and off the pitch.  They finished 2nd in the competition and did themselves and the school proud in what was a fantastic afternoon.
