Dazzling Ducklings Enjoyed Cultural Day!

Yesterday our Dazzling Ducklings were very enthusiastic about finding out about the cultures of their friends.

Some of our children came to pre school in their traditional dress, or brought in their country's flag.

We also looked at a variety of books and information about different cultures, thinking about food, clothing and activities.  Some of the children could spot similarities with their own meals and activities.

The children enjoyed designing and making stick puppets to represent themselves.

It was fantastic to see the children so excited when listening to what their friends eat, do and how they dress.

Cultural Day in Kestrels

Kestrels had a fantastic day learning about a wide variety of cultures. This morning they had interesting talks from parent visitors about Nigerian, Kenyan and Somali cultures. They were lucky enough to try some delicious homemade snacks (samosas and kaimati).  They also enjoyed a class game of cricket!

This afternoon, our class 'experts' worked with small groups to teach their classmates about their cultural heritage. This included learning about language, religious beliefs and stories, festivals, popular games and looking at traditional costumes. They did an amazing job! We finished off the day with cakes decorated as part of our own Afternoon Tea.

Robins are Cultur-tastic!

Today has been a very exciting day for Bitterne Manor Primary School as we have celebrated our very own 'Culture Day!' It's been absolutely wonderful learning about everyone's culture and taking part in lots of fun activities.

We had a fab start to the day with a whole school assembly where a couple of parents shared stories from their culture. It was really fascinating to listen to. We were lucky enough to take part in a mask making activity with one of the parents who came and taught us all about her Italian culture.

Next, we shared our posters from our homework and learnt all about each other's cultures. This was really lovely because we all shared similar experiences and learnt about new ones. We wrote about this in our books.

In the afternoon Miss Sangha taught us all about her Culture. We learnt how to count to 10 in Punjabi and she showed us pictures from her time in India. It was really cool!

Here's us counting to 10 in Punjabi...

All in all, it has been a fantastic day and I've had a super time learning about everyone's cultures and sharing my own 😊

kestrels masterchef class!

Last term in DT, Kestrels enjoyed learning all about the differences between processed and wholefoods and today had a great time making either Ratatouille with orzo pasta or Lentil curry and rice. They showed fantastic skills; peeling, chopping and grating and worked together really well. The end results smelt and tasted delicious!
