Carnival Crazy!

Another massive well done to the children in Nightingales class who produced some excellent home projects for our topic 'Carnival'.
Here are some of us in our masks and headdresses! As well as this, we also made carinval games and did lots of research.
Excellent job!

Magnet Madness in Nightingales

This week in Nightingales, our Science week has been focused on Forces and Magnets. We have linked this to our English and Maths work
.
At the beginning of the week, we chose a scene from our Origin stories and designed this on a paper plate. We then retold the scene using a character on a paperclip with a magnet behind it, to make the story come to life! It worked really well and was very entertaining!

To link our DT, Science and Maths, we then designed, made and evaluated Maths based magnetic games. All of the games had to use a magnet to navigate around the board, have maths questions to win the game and had to have a clear set of instructions to make the game.
Some really brilliant ideas-  come and have a play of them outside our classroom!!

As well as excellent learning in school, many children in the class also produced fantastic homework experiments!! Here are just a few.

Maria's meat in coke...(disgusting!!)

Lucy's volcano video ( see full link below to watch!)

Well done Nightingales- an amazing week!! Thanks for all your hard work - and Mrs Husselbee for inspiring us!

The Great Bitterne Bake off!

What an amazing end to British Science Week in Owl's class with our very own "Bake Off" competition!  After lots of research all week into data collection of children's favourite bread, the science of yeast fermentation, bread tasting and designing recipes, children in Year 5 had a "Bake off" as they made their very own bread - using measuring and converting skills practised in maths.

They then left the dough to prove, before adding their very own special ingredients and shaping their dough.

Then for the competition, with special guest appearances from our very own Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood...

Well done to ALL of Year 5 - your creations were amazing AND they tasted pretty good too!  I hope you left some for your friends and family.  Thanks to all the parent (and teacher) helpers - we could not have done it without you.

Swifts Rock Science Week!

Wow, what a week it has been for the Swifts! We started off the week with lots of fun Science experiments to help celebrate British Science Week and have learnt lots along the way!  We have linked in lots of our learning from Maths (Capacity) with the experiments to show off the skills learnt.  The experiments were: looking at the effects of colouring to see if they would change a white flower or lettuce leaf, creating an ocean in a bottle by using water and oil, making 'corny goo' out of cornflower and water, using washing up liquid, shower gel and shampoo to create bubble mixture and using a wire framed shape to blow them through, making a fizzy drink out of pure orange juice (squeezed) water and bicarbonate soda (by the way it was DISGUSTING) to creating a fizzy fountain involving cherryade, lemonade, diet coke and a packet of Mentos.  We have rocked this week and have thoroughly enjoyed it! Look at our pictures below to see how much fun we had...

Science week in Robins class

We've had a fantastic week in Robins.  We have welcomed some small visitors into our class (Bob, Dave, Stuart, Kevin and Gru the caterpillars). We can't wait to watch them grow and turn into a caterpillar.

In maths we have been measuring caterpillars using standard and non-standard units. We have written some beautiful sense poems and are looking forward to publishing them on Friday. We have labelled a butterfly's  body parts and found out how a butterfly sees, hears, feels, smells and tastes. We ventured out into the field to find some mini-beasts and have created some fab butterfly pictures using crayons.

Year r science week

This week we have been busy learning lots about science and have linked it to duck in the truck.  We started the week with investigating push and pull forces.  It was so much fun.  We then looked at different materials and what happened to them when we add water. Sand and sugar are ok but adding water to flour makes a very sticky, gloopy mess that things will get stuck in. To finish the week we have learnt about friction by sending cars down ramps and measuring how far they travel.  We have had an amazing week, thank you Professor Husselfluff and Professor Von Hayward.
