Year R have been investigating measuring length.

They began by using their hands to measure how many hands long things were. It was strange though, as we all used a different number of hands when measuring the same object. We couldn't think why. The object was the same, and we were all measuring using hands. Our Kingfishers were very careful to make sure they didn't leave any gaps between their hands, and that they started and ended right at the edge of their objects. We then realised that our hands are all different sizes! How could we compare our results if we were measuring using different sizes?

Our clever Kingfishers understood that we need to all use the same size apparatus to measure with.
They then tried measuring the length of different sea creatures, using multi link cubes to do so. Our Year R's found that they all had to use the same number of cubes when measuring the same sea creatures!
Amazing problem solving and measuring Kingfishers!
