Bitterne Manor Book day...BUZZING!

WOW! What a day it has been! Our Bitterne Manor Book Day has been a HUGE success.  The children and staff have been hooked all day and have not stopped buzzing around! From taking part in the super Story Treasure Hunt, guessing which book members of staff were from to using the Big Book Off challenge sheet, it truly has been a fabolous day to celebrate our love of reading.  Children have won prizes from the activities planned and have been entirely engaged in their `create` challenge.  This entailed each class to select a favourite book and create models (out of potatoes, yes, potatoes) scenes from the book chosen to showcase to the rest of the classes for them to guess the book!  This `reading safari` will taken place tomorrow as part of WBD, stay tuned to see the fabolous outcomes.  The fun will continue tomorrow where we celebrate World Book Day in style! The `writes of passsge` homework has been absolutely amazing, thank you all for dedicating the time to do this with your child.  It was a delight to see so many of you at our English Book Look and take part in our reading workshops, we hope you enjoyed them. Thank you for coming along to support your child. Here are some of the wonderful moments captured from today`s event.

Reading rocks!

Pupils in Year 5 have shown today that reading "rocks" as they have taken part in a whole range of activities as part of our Bitterne Manor Book Day. They have created a 'role on the wall', freeze frames of their favourite scene,  a biography of our  chosen author and much more! We can't wait for World Book day tomorrow to get creative with potatoes!

Nightingales Book Days

Can you guess which book Nightingales are focussing on for the next 2 days?
All will be revealed tomorrow afternoon...

Help to host...?

We are still hopefully looking for families who would be willing to host some children from Spain in June. We have had several offers but are still short a few spaces. A group of 20 or so Spanish primary age children (9 to 11) will be visiting the UK in June. Half of the children will be staying with parents from St Denys Primary School and we are hoping the other half will be with us. They will spend some days in our school working with us and their own teachers and hey have a couple of day trips planned. We would very much like to support this venture as we think it would a great experience for our pupils. We can offer funding for any family to support these children and more details are available if you're interested. Please do consider it if you can!

'Bitterne Manor Book Day' begins...

Preparations for our 'Bitterne Manor Book Day' are in place... one of the activities for children to do is to find the characters carefully placed around the school (...and some on staff!). Can they work out what well known story they are from?

Our overall performance was awarded 4th place out of the 10 schools in the event and we were really proud of this achievement in our very first year of taking part. Most importantly, the children had fun, worked together as a team, had a fantastic experience and learnt a lot. Well done everyone!
